CRYPTO WALLET TROUBLESHOOTING: WHEN YOUR ASSETS APPEAR TO BE MISSING
Seeing a zero balance or missing token in a wallet does not automatically mean the asset has been stolen. The wallet application may be displaying the wrong account, network or token information.
THE CORE PRINCIPLE
VERIFY THE WALLET, ACCOUNT, NETWORK AND TRANSACTION HISTORY BEFORE ASSUMING FUNDS ARE LOST.
01 · CONFIRM THE CORRECT WALLET
Check that you opened the intended wallet account. Some wallet applications can contain multiple accounts or addresses.
02 · CHECK THE NETWORK
An asset may exist on a different supported network from the one currently selected in the wallet interface.
03 · CHECK THE BLOCKCHAIN RECORD
Where appropriate, use the relevant blockchain explorer to verify whether the address actually holds the asset and whether a transaction occurred.
04 · CHECK THE TOKEN
A token may not appear in the wallet interface simply because the wallet is not currently displaying that token. Use the wallet's legitimate token-management feature when appropriate.
05 · CHECK THE WALLET VERSION
An outdated wallet application can cause display or compatibility problems. Update only through the wallet provider's trusted official channel.
06 · DO NOT GIVE YOUR RECOVERY PHRASE TO “SUPPORT”
A person claiming to fix the wallet who asks for your recovery phrase, private key or password should be treated as untrusted. Do not disclose wallet secrets.
EXAMPLE
Your wallet shows zero for a token you previously held. Before concluding that the asset disappeared, verify the wallet address and network, then check the blockchain record. If the asset exists on-chain but is not displayed, the problem may be the wallet interface rather than the asset itself.
WHAT TO DO
- Verify the account address.
- Verify the selected network.
- Check the blockchain record.
- Check token visibility.
- Update only from an official source.
- Never share recovery secrets.
WHY THIS MATTERS
A wallet interface is a way of viewing and interacting with blockchain assets; it is not itself the blockchain record.
