SECURE YOUR GATE ACCOUNT

Protect the exchange account before putting serious value into it.

Gate provides multiple layers of account and asset protection, including two-step verification, a Fund Password, anti-phishing protection, security logs and withdrawal-address controls.

Gate exchange security is different from wallet security.

This guide covers your Gate exchange account. A separate self-custody wallet has a different security model and may involve recovery phrases or private keys.

Never give anyone your password, Fund Password, verification code, recovery phrase or private key.

What should I never share?
Never share your Gate password, Fund Password, SMS or email verification code, authenticator code, GateCode, recovery phrase or private key. Gate states that its staff will not ask for these secrets.
What is an anti-phishing code?
Gate's anti-phishing code is a personalized code you create in your security settings. Genuine Gate communications can display the code so you can distinguish them from phishing messages.
What is a trusted withdrawal address?
A trusted address is an address saved in Gate's address book that may be configured to skip some verification steps on future withdrawals. This makes the address especially important to verify before marking it as trusted.
Why can't I withdraw after changing a security setting?
Gate may temporarily disable withdrawals for 24 hours after certain security changes. This is an account-protection measure designed to give the legitimate account owner time to react if the change was unauthorized.
What if someone says my Gate account is at high risk?
Stop. This is a common scam pattern. Do not follow their links, install software, disclose security codes or transfer funds to a supposed security or recovery wallet. Open Gate independently and use its official support channel.
GATE EXCHANGE SECURITY

Build the security layers before you need them.

Work through the controls one at a time. After changing a setting, verify that the protection is actually active.

Use a strong, unique Gate password

Your Gate login password protects access to an account that may control valuable assets. Never reuse it on another important service.

Gate uses a separate Fund Password for sensitive financial operations. It should not be the same as your login password.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Security Settings.
  2. Find Fund Password.
  3. Create a strong password that is different from your login password.
  4. Avoid using your banking PIN, birthday or another easily guessed number.

Set an anti-phishing code

Gate's anti-phishing code helps you identify genuine Gate communications and distinguish them from phishing messages.

  1. Open Security Settings.
  2. Find Anti-Phishing Code.
  3. Select the option to turn it on.
  4. Create a unique code that you can recognize.

  6. Remember what your code looks like.
  7. Check the code when you receive Gate communications that claim to be legitimate.
  8. If the code is missing or incorrect, stop interacting with the message.

VERIFY: Confirm that your anti-phishing code is enabled and that you know exactly what the correct code should look like.

Review security logs

Gate provides security logs that can help you identify recent account-security changes and suspicious activity.

Step-by-step

  2. Find Security Logs.
  3. Review recent security-related activity.
  4. Look for changes you do not recognize, such as password or authentication changes.

Enable withdrawal address protection

Gate's address-book and trusted-address controls can reduce the risk of withdrawing funds to an unauthorized destination.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Assets → Withdraw.
  2. Select the cryptocurrency you intend to withdraw.
  3. Choose On-chain Withdrawal.
  4. Open Manage Addresses / Address Book.

VERIFY: Confirm that every saved withdrawal address belongs to a destination you intentionally control.

Be careful with trusted addresses

Gate's trusted-address feature can bypass some normal verification steps for future withdrawals. Convenience should never replace verification.

Step-by-step

  1. Open your Address Book.
  2. Review every address marked as trusted.
  3. Confirm the coin and network for each address.
  4. Confirm that each address belongs to you or to an intentionally verified destination.
  5. Remove any trusted address you no longer need.
  6. Do not mark an address as trusted merely because someone sent it to you in a message.

VERIFY: Every trusted address should be one you independently verified and intentionally approved.

Verify every withdrawal

Crypto withdrawals can be irreversible. Verify the recipient, asset, network, amount and any required memo or tag before confirming.

Step-by-step

  1. Confirm the recipient address from a trusted source.
  2. Verify the asset.
  3. Verify the network selected on Gate.
  4. Confirm that the receiving wallet or exchange supports that exact network.

  8. For a high-value transfer, consider a small test transaction first when practical.

VERIFY: Before confirming, independently verify the recipient, asset, network, amount and any required memo or tag.

Understand Gate's 24-hour withdrawal protection

Gate may temporarily restrict withdrawals after security settings are changed. This is designed to give the account owner time to react if an attacker changed the settings.

Step-by-step

  1. Understand that changing or resetting certain security settings can trigger a withdrawal restriction.
  2. Gate currently states that withdrawals may be disabled for 24 hours after certain security changes.
  3. If you see a 24-hour withdrawal restriction after changing your own security settings, do not repeatedly change them.
  4. Check your Security Logs to confirm when the change occurred.
  5. Wait for the security period to expire before attempting the withdrawal again.
  6. If the change was not made by you, treat the restriction as a possible warning that someone else accessed your account.

VERIFY: Confirm that the security change was intentional and understand when the withdrawal restriction should expire.

Secure your email and phone

Your email address and phone number form part of your account-security chain and need their own protection.

  2. Never give them your password, Fund Password, verification codes or GateCodes.

  6. Open Gate yourself through the official website or app instead.

VERIFY: If someone approaches you about a supposed Gate security problem, independently open Gate rather than following their instructions.

Verify Gate websites and messages

Phishing websites can look almost identical to a real exchange. Verify the domain before entering credentials.

Step-by-step

  1. Do not trust a Gate link simply because it arrived through email, SMS, Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord or social media.
  2. Check the browser address bar carefully.
  3. Look for unusual spelling, extra words or suspicious domains.
  4. When in doubt, open Gate by entering the official address yourself.
