Secure your TikTok

1. Open TikTok and sign in normally.
2. Tap Profile at the bottom of the screen.
3. Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
4. Open Settings and privacy.
5. Look for Security & permissions.
6. Open the available 2-step verification options.
7. Choose the verification methods TikTok makes available to you and complete the setup.
8. Sign out and verify that the additional verification is requested when appropriate.

VERIFY: Do not assume two-step verification is active simply because you started the setup. Confirm that the security setting shows as enabled.

1. Open TikTok and go to your profile.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button.
3. Open Settings and privacy.
4. Go to the account's security or device-management area.
5. Review the devices listed as having access to your account.
6. Investigate any device you do not recognize.
7. Remove unfamiliar access where TikTok gives you that option.

VERIFY: If you find a device you do not recognize, do not ignore it. Change your password and review your other security settings.

4. Open Security & permissions.
5. Select Security alerts.
6. Review recent alerts and investigate anything you do not recognize.

VERIFY: An unexpected security alert should not be dismissed automatically. Check what happened before continuing to use the account normally.

4. Open Account and then the password option.
5. Create a strong password that you do not use elsewhere.
6. Save it securely, preferably in a reputable password manager.

VERIFY: Never give your TikTok password to someone claiming to be TikTok support.

3. Open Settings and privacy.
4. Open the Privacy section.
5. Review whether your account is public or private.
6. Review the audience options available for your posts and other content.
7. Choose settings that match how much you actually want to share.

VERIFY: Check your profile from a perspective that represents someone who does not already have access to your account.

1. Open TikTok and go to your profile.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button.
3. Open Settings and privacy.
4. Open the Privacy section.
5. Review your direct-message settings.
6. Review who can comment, mention or otherwise interact with your content where those controls are available.
7. Choose the least-exposing setting that still works for you.

VERIFY: Do not accept unexpected messages, links or requests simply because they appear inside TikTok.

1. Open TikTok and go to your profile.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button.
3. Open Settings and privacy.
4. Look for the section covering connected or third-party applications.
5. Review every application that currently has access.
6. Remove applications you no longer use or do not recognize.

VERIFY: If you cannot identify why an application has access, investigate it before leaving the connection active.

1. Open TikTok and go to your profile.
2. Tap the Menu ☰ button.
3. Open Settings and privacy.
4. Review the email address and phone number associated with the account.
5. Make sure you still control every recovery method listed.
6. Remove or update recovery information you no longer control.

VERIFY: Never allow another person to add their email address or phone number to your account as a supposed "recovery" method.

1. Treat unexpected messages asking for login information as suspicious.
2. Do not give anyone your password or verification codes.
3. Do not enter your TikTok credentials into a suspicious website.
4. Verify links before opening them.
5. Be especially cautious of offers promising free followers, likes, coins or other rewards.
6. If something looks suspicious, use TikTok's official reporting or support process instead.

VERIFY: After making the change, return to the relevant Tiktok setting and confirm that the protection is actually active.
