01 · LEARN

Understand the principle

A familiar name or account does not prove that the person controlling it is genuine. If someone you know makes an unusual request, switch channels. Call a number you already had or use another trusted contact route rather than relying on the message, profile or account that made the request.

03 · VERIFY

Verify what matters

Contact the person through a previously trusted channel rather than the message or profile making the request.

Use an independent method
  • Call the person using a number already saved or independently obtained; for an organisation, use its official website or published contact number instead of replying to the requesting account.

06 · REASSESS

Come back and measure progress
